Highlights: August 16, 1987: Tim Raines hit for the cycle in a 10-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Olympic Stadium, going five-for-five in the process. A crowd of 26,134 were on hand to see it in Montreal.
February 3, 1987: Jeff Reardon and Tom Nieto were traded by the Expos to the Minnesota Twins for Neal Heaton, Yorkis Pérez, Jeff Reed, and Al Cardwood (minors).
February 16, 1987: Pascual Pérez was signed as a free agent by the Expos.
Ten years after the Big O opened the Expos season began the season with a new feature, a roof. The roof, which was made to be retractable, would be a source of many problems for the franchise. The roof was awful it was great watching a game under the stars, eventually the roof would be fixed. This would hurt attendance, as Montreal residents did not like going indoors to watch a baseball game on warm summer nights, and led to a steady decline in attendance. Tim Raines was resigned in May and return with gusto. Raines would lead the Expos right into the thick of the pennant race, and would be impressive enough to land a spot on the All-Star team, winning the ASG MVP with an extra inning two run double. The Expos would get with one game game of first place on September 29th, before losing a Double Header to the St. Louis Cardinals. 91-71.
